It's finally autumn!

what don't i love about the fall? the warm tones, comfort foods, apple desserts, pumpkin bread, fall colored leaves all over the streets (at least on the east coast), and the cooler evening breeze. i love decorating our home with autumn colors - candles, blankets, pumpkins, and photos of halloweens past. it's the oncoming of another season in our lives just like the circle of life. it's a beautiful transition from a warm, vibrant colored summer...into a cooler, muted toned season that reminds us to gather and prepare for the coming of winter. it's a time for reflection and thanksgiving of our great abundance and so many blessings!
that's what i love about fall.

so today marks exactly 20 years ago that i went on a mission for the LDS church that we are members of - another thing that links me to the love of fall! i can't believe it. i am a different person today because of having served a mission. there's not a day that goes by that i don't remember that experience and draw from all that i gained and learned. i served in the D.C. south mission - actually living and serving in northern virginia. i taught in spanish. i am so grateful i learned spanish. it has opened the door for some wonderful people to come into my life. i made life long friends and have relationships with them that are precious and eternal. they are more than just friends anymore...they are my family and i love them dearly.

i entered the MTC with a utah girl who i didn't think i'd hit it off with or that we had anything in common-she had big utah hair and wore a fluffy pink dress with matching shoes and hair bow. i said to myself..."please don't let her be my companion". well, she was. we laughed and cried and struggled together. how was i to guess that some 20 years later we'd be closer than ever with a relationship that's as strong as 2 blood sisters. i still call her "buhler" and she still calls me "currie". she still lives in utah and i still live in california. the miles may separate us but our hearts are forever linked together. she is just one of the blessing i received from going on a mission. i'm grateful i have it to fall back on. it helped me develop spiritual roots and to know just where to plant myself.

HAPPY 20TH BUHLER...I LUV YA MAN! (that's what we always say at the end of a conversation).

song of the day: I CAN'T THINK OF A FALL SEASON SONG!!! CAN YOU GIVE ME SOME SUGGESTIONS PEOPLE?!

currie (don't know if I've called you that on previous posts b/c i didn't know if you minded or not but it is how i will always think of you!) I read this post with tears in my eyes...you 2 were the best missionaries and you brought so much fun and love into our home. i will never forget buhler, mitchell, pelzer and of course...you! Do you keep in touch with any of those ladies?

Hooray for missions! I think you and Buhler came on a mission in part for the Schwabs. We sure needed you two and love you two to this day.
